Frequently asked questions
Have questions about the Union PA program. Here are some answers? Or you can contact us.
May I apply with a course outstanding?
Yes. At the time of application, you will have about a year to finish up any outstanding/in-process classes; however, balance that with our need to know how well you do in college, particularly in the more difficult science classes. It is an advantage to have those A’s sitting on your CASPA transcript. All classes must be completed by August 1 of the summer your PA class begins.
Your website says you don’t accept online science classes. How about Medical Terminology?
Although we don’t accept online science prerequisite classes, you may opt to take Developmental Psychology, Statistics, or Medical Terminology online.
I’d like to visit with someone from the program. How do I arrange that?
Our PA advisor is happy to sit down and talk with prospective applicants. Please call our office and arrange a time.
Do I have to retake all of my courses if they are older than seven years?
No, with the exception of upper-division Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, and Biochemistry.
Do I need to take a Biochemistry lab?
We don’t require a Biochemistry lab.
I repeated some classes. Do you average everything together, or just use my new grades?
We use the GPAs provided by CASPA, which usually include every class you have ever taken—even though your original college may have replaced some grades for you. You should plan to see every grade appear on your CASPA application.
How do I document shadowing hours?
Enter the following on your application for each shadowing entry: person’s name that you shadowed (referred to as the “supervisor”), his position, whether we have permission to contact him or not, the clinic/hospital name and address, dates, hours, and a couple of sentences telling what you observed as you shadowed.
Do you require the GRE?
You are welcome to submit GRE scores, but we do not require them.
Does Union College have a supplemental application?
No, we just need your CASPA application.
