Campus & Community Involvement:
On campus, Dr. Toews is the current chair of the Campus Technology Committee (2017-) as well as member of the Academic Integrity Committee (2017-). He is also the Ministries Club faculty sponsor (2014-).
Off campus, he is a member of the Piedmont Park Seventh-day Adventist church where he serves as the head elder (2014-).

Professional Background:
Dr. Toews joined the Religion Division Faculty in 2011. Prior to teaching, he did pastoral work in Wyoming and California.

Personal Information:

Thomas Toews is professor of religion at Union College where he has taught since 2011. He received his undergraduate degree from Pacific Union College, and an MDiv and a PhD in Historical Theology from Andrews University. He teaches a variety of classes in the areas of theology and Old Testament but he most enjoys encouraging students to think like an Adventist.  He wrote several articles for the recently published Ellen White Encyclopedia (2013) and is currently writing a book on Christian doctrines for use in Adventist colleges. With experience both in the classroom and as an ordained minister, he enjoys bringing Adventist theology alive to both new believers and seasoned Christians. His wife, Lena, holds a PhD in New Testament and also teaches classes in the Religion Division at Union College. Together, they enjoy raising their two boys in Lincoln, Nebraska.
