Choose your major and career path.

Are you uncertain you have chosen the right major for you? Or are you still figuring out how to declare your major? Taking a little time now to consider your options can save a lot of time, money and stress in the years ahead.

These are your next steps and resources to choosing your major:

  • Browse programs to study at Union College and connect with one of our certified life coaches to guide the process as you make the decision.
  • Complete the Focus 2 Career assessment at ucollege.edu/focus2. Create your free account with the access code for Union College: warriors.

Student Success and Career Services offers assistance in using these resources and processing your results to choose a major.

Get an internship or job.

On-campus student employment opportunities are posted at ucollege.edu/student-jobs. Working part-time while attending college improves your “soft skills” that all employers are looking for and better prepares you for life after college.

Off-campus employment and internship opportunities are posted through the online job board Handshake. Students can use their free account to find off-campus jobs and internships. Employers can also create a free account to post jobs and internships for Union College students and take part in virtual fairs.

Start your career here.

Resume and cover letter templates and assistance, interview practice, and other career preparation are available through Student Success. Altogether, this is your first impression for a prospective employer, so make it a great one. Email careerassistant@ucollege.edu to start this process!

The Career and Graduate School Fair is hosted by Student Success each fall. Employers and graduate schools offer students information on internships, part-time and full-time employment, and university graduate programs. Students can take this opportunity to practice talking with employers, learn about opportunities for internships, jobs, and graduate programs, and make connections for next steps after college. Learn more at ucollege.edu/career-fair.

Continue your education.

Graduate school might be the next step for you instead of (or along with) starting a career after graduation.

Here are some questions to consider as you decide if graduate school is the right choice for you and when to attend:

  • What are your career goals? Is additional education required, recommended, or optional?
  • What are your top relational, financial, or other considerations for making this decision?
  • Do you need a break from academics before starting another degree program? If so, what career could you pursue in the meantime?
  • Loans can be deferred for grad school, but they continue to accumulate. Will your payments be manageable with your potential salary? Are assistantships or scholarships available for your desired program to help you pay for it?

Graduate Admissions Exams

If you decide to continue your education in a graduate program, an admissions exam might be your next step. Following are the sites to find more information for whichever exam is relevant to your desired degree.
