Vinita Sauder was appointed as Union College’s 29th president in 2014. She has extensive experience as an educator, researcher, and administrator, beginning her career in education as a professor in business and management. Prior to accepting the position at Union College, she served for 17 years in vice presidential roles at Southern Adventist University in Tennessee, a sister institution to Union College. These roles included strategic initiatives, academic administration, marketing, enrollment, and financial aid.
Dr. Sauder earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism, an MBA from the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga, and a doctorate in educational leadership from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. She is a graduate of the Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University’s School of Education.
She serves as a board member for Adventist Health System in Orlando, for Christian Record Services for the Blind in Lincoln, for the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists in Silver Spring, Maryland, for the Mid-America Union in Lincoln, for the College View Church in Lincoln, and for the Kansas-Nebraska Conference in Topeka, Kansas. She is the current president of the Association of Adventist Colleges and Universities, a coalition of 13 institutions in North America. Dr. Sauder is also the presidential sponsor for the Nebraska Women in Higher Education Leadership.
Her husband Greg works in Plant Services at Union College, and the Sauders have two married sons—Nick is a senior business analyst at Adventist Health in Sacramento, and Dustin recently graduated with his degree in International Rescue and Relief at Union College. Dr. Sauder’s main hobby these days is visiting (or facetiming) with her two grandchildren in California.
