In preparation for fall classes, the library is in the process of adding four new online resources. JSTOR‘s Arts & Sciences I and Arts & Sciences II collections as well as the Biblical Archaeology Society Online Archive are already available through the library’s website. In early August, online access to The New York Times will be available through an academic site license.
The JSTOR platform is not new to Union College. The library purchased JSTOR’s Language & Literature and Life Sciences collections several years ago. Arts & Sciences I adds 117 titles with strengths in economics, history, political science, sociology, statistics, and African American Studies. Arts & Sciences II adds 127 titles with strengths in economics, history, archaeology, classics, and area studies (Latin American, Middle Eastern, Slavic, African, and Asian). In addition to supporting several existing academic programs, these two collections are of exceptional value to Union’s new International Relations program. Visit Collections Available at Your Institution to see a complete list of titles available to Union College students, faculty, and staff through JSTOR.
The Biblical Archaeology Society Online Archive includes the complete run of three journals, Biblical Archaeology Review, Bible Review, and Archaeology Odyssey. Additional supplementary material includes the full text of five books and video lectures by noted scholars.
Institutional online subscriptions to The New York Times provide access to a wide range of both archival and current content. All articles published between 1851 and 1922 and from 1981 to the present are available. Access to articles published between 1923 and1980 is selective. Articles from the daily paper are available in the “Today’s Paper” section of the database. The site is both browseable and searchable. Watch for more information in August.
