Much like an artistic collage is comprised of various materials and colors, Union College provides students with diverse opportunities and experiences. On registration day, August 20, the Union Collage will introduce students to campus clubs, local businesses and ways to engage with their campus and community.
The second annual Union Collage will be held in Wood’s Auditorium from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.—nearly concurrent to registration. “There will be a wide variety of people and booths that students will be able to connect with and explore,” explained Michelle Younkin, director of the Records Office and event coordinator. “They will have the opportunity to make great connections with local businesses and have an idea of what is available to them from the Lincoln community.” More than 50 on-campus clubs and local businesses will participate, including Sam’s Club, Village Inn, Urgent Care, High Society Cheesecake and Great Western Bank.
The first Union Collage was held during registration for the 2011-2012 school year. The Records Office developed the event to keep students engaged in the registration process by creating interaction with campus clubs and businesses. Each student must complete a passbook by visiting a certain number of booths to be eligible to win prizes such as iPads and gift cards from local businesses.
This year’s event will feature a booth decoration contest with the winner chosen by two guest judges who will evaluate each campus club for creativity. The winning clubs will receive $100, $50 and $25 respectively.
Younkin believes that Union Collage, along with moving much of the registration process online, will make registration day a lot more fun for students. “By planning ahead and having all these activities, we have been able to shorten the long registration lines,” she said. “There are fewer stations for students to go through so the process will be much quicker.”
