The Union College Invitational Volleyball Tournament 2013 will get underway on Thursday, Oct. 17, sporting not only a name change, but a change in format as well. Formerly known as the Mid-America Union Volleyball Tournament, the 2013 tournament includes high schools from around the country and will introduce seeded pool play instead of a round robin format to accomodate more teams.
The tournaments will begin at 1:00 p.m. featuring 11 teams will be divided into three pools. Each team will play three games in their pool to determine placement in four pools for the seeded pool play on Friday. The top three teams from each pool on Thursday will become a pool on Friday, the second place teams will become another pool, the third place teams a third pool, and the fourth place teams another pool. The Friday games will then determine seeding for the championship tournament bracket that will start with three games Friday afternoon and then continue on Saturday night.
This year, games will take place in the Thunderdome on Union College’s campus, at the College View Academy gym (5240 Calvert St.) and at the Lincoln Racquet Club (5300 Old Cheney Rd.), with the addition of the Calvert Recreation Center (4500 Stockwell St.) on Saturday night.
Some games will be webcast on UCLive. Please check back for a broadcasting
